  • NOC performances at Beacon Hill

The recent EM League event at Beacon Hill, hosted by LEI, once again saw some strong results from NOC members.

Richard Robinson (M40) continued to demonstrate his prowess by being first back on the Brown course, more than 14 minutes ahead of the next competitor!

Bodie Milsom (M14), who started orienteering just 12 months ago as part of our MapActive programme, finished 2nd on the Light Green course and the first of four M/W14 competitors.

Paul Morris (M65) was 3rd on the Green.  Elaine Smith (W65) was the first woman back on the Short Green, finishing 4th overall.

Top ten finishes were recorded by Tony Donaldson, Catherine Hughes, Tricia Neal, Emily & Neil Milsom, Elodie and Emily Booker, Grace and Lily Robinson, and new NOC member, Alan Blackwell.

Just two more events remain for 2025.  Next up is NOC hosted Strawberry Hill on 21st December.

  • Cromford Moor – 23 November 2025

The East Midlands League event at Cromford Moor (hosted by DVO) took place on the 23rd November.

Richard Robinson dominated the Blue course, maintaining first position overall throughout his run, despite a wobble en-route to the fifth control.

There were top ten finishes for a number of NOC members too:  Elaine Smith (Short Green), Simon Elliott (Green), John Woodall (Very Short Green), Bodie Milsom (Light Green), and new NOC member Alan Blackwell (Orange).  Well done all on what was a challenging area.

  • Wellow Park – 9th November

Participants in the East Midlands League event at Wellow on the 9th of November encountered courses under a blanket of golden leaves.

On top of that, Planner Richard Robinson made good use of the contours available to create courses that provided a full-on technical difficulty 5 work-out for the experienced orienteers taking part!

There were many good NOC performances with Hilary Palmer finishing first on the Short Green course, closely followed by Jane Booker and Richard Beadle.  John Palmer finished 3rd on the Very Short Green and Tim Booker came home 4th on the Blue course.

NOC members also topped the results on the Orange course (Sophie Peet – 1st ) as well as the Yellow course (Elodie Booker – 1st and Lily Robinson – 2nd).

RouteGadget is now available for this event so do take a look at the various courses that were encountered; great examples of well planned courses designed to challenge the skills of keen orienteers.

Thanks go to Richard Robinson for planning, Mick Lucking for controlling and Pat Squire for organising the event.  Thanks also goes to those who provided the new map, obtained the various permissions and all those who helped-out on the day.

The next NOC event will be the pre-Christmas one at Strawberry Hill near Mansfield.

  • Strong NOC Performances at Shipley Park

The first of four November East Midlands League events was held at Shipley Park in Derbyshire on the 2nd of November.  Participants experienced full autumnal sunshine throughout!

Top NOC results came from Dave Schorah (M35) and Richard Robinson (M40) who finished first and second respectively on the Brown course.  Lily Robinson (W8) topped the results of the Yellow course.  Podium spots were also secured by Bodie Milsom and Grace Robinson on the Light Green course, and Tony Donaldson on Blue.

The Short Green saw newly crowned NOC Club Champion Jane Booker (W70) finish as second woman home closely followed by Hilary Palmer (W75).  There were top ten finishes for Catherine Hughes, David Booker, Elodie Booker, Emilie Milsom, and new NOC member Alan Blackwell.

Congratulations to all.  The next EM League event will be hosted by NOC at Wellow Park on the 9th November.
